Education & Experience: I was lucky to have the freedom to explore the outdoors from a very young age. These wonderful experiences made a huge impact on me. I love to explore the natural world and share the mysteries with children. I have a BA in Intercultural Studies from Warren Wilson College. I worked for many years as a counselor at the YMCA and an outdoor educator at the Swannanoa 4H Camp. One of my favorite memories from that time was when we walked through the woods. We made up stories as we went and turned it into an adventure. I returned to college for my Elementary Education Certificate at UNC Asheville, and I taught fifth grade for three years. I took my students outside as much as possible. When my daughter was born, I stopped teaching to stay at home with her. A few years later I began a new journey as a GED instructor and math tutor. This small group and one on one instruction allowed me to really dig into my students’ thought processes as they learned. I am excited about my next adventure at Woodson Branch Nature School.

Teaching Philosophy: Every student has a gift to share with the world. My goal is to give students the opportunity to grow and express themselves and for them to also notice and appreciate the gifts of their classmates.

Favorite thing about kids: They make me laugh! I am often surprised by their strange and wonderful ideas.

Favorite thing about working at WBNS:

I love working with kids, being outside, and being part of a creative team. It’s a magical combination!
